mountain biking in Torridon

Today I was lucky enough to go mountain biking in Torridon with three of my friends. We did a 30 mile loop which started in Annat, headed east to Coulin Estate and then climbed the pass there at 286m. The descent to Achnashellach was very fast and flowing through the forestry tracks to the road. A nice section on the road to Coulags before the ‘challenging’ climb up to the Bealach na Lice at 410m. The descent is a fantastic blend of track hem-stiched to the side of the mountain, swooping single track and sweeps of Torridonian Sandstone slabs all the way down to sea level.

Question by Steven W: what are some nice accessories to add on to a cruiser bike?
my plan is to wake up early in the morning (5:30-6 ish) go bike a few miles when its still dark and cold to lose weight, what things will i need? besides stuff like obviously a light, also i will probably use it for quick runs to the store, so some kind of storage systems, just not the handle bar baskets…if anything i dont really need the storage thing…any ideas on what else?

Sometimes overlooked are clothes and safety equipment. You might want to get a helmet, for starters. Also, some nice high visibility clothes, maybe a bright jacket with some safety reflective strips built in. I like cycling gloves, to help my hands keep a good solid grip. Some people like to have a rear-view mirror mounted on their helmet, or maybe their handlebars. It’s all a matter of personal taste, to some extent. But riding at dawn or dusk, you really want to be seen by traffic, because that is a dangerous time to ride as far as visibility is concerned. Be seen, be safe!
Otherwise, just make sure the bike is tuned up and ready to go, keep those tires pumped up.

Front blinky, CycleAware rear-view mirror (with wire wrap to hold the torsional position since the inside wire appears to have broken), and MTE SSC P7-C headlight. The latter is a good floodlight, as the front cone suggests, and it’s stunningly bright for its size. (See the "side view" photo’s description for further details.)
