It was discovered by Melvin Calvin, James Bassham and Andrew Benson at the University of California, Berkeley . It is one of the light-independent reactions or dark reactions.

The period of a trigonometric function is the number of degrees taken to complete one cycle. A function f is periodic with period p if there exists some constant p for which f(theta+p) = f(theta) for all values of theta.
Amplitude is the distance to which a sinusoid rises and falls above and below its axis. For example, the distance from its axis to a high point or a low point.
Phase displacement is equal to horizontal shift, and it is the value of theta that makes the argument of sinusoid = 0.

A determines amplitude = |A|
B determines period = (360)/|B|
C determines horizontal shift: c>0 – right, c<0 - left
