Mark Roth and Sally Walters’ collection of tours has long been a trusted companion of cyclists in the Finger Lakes region. It’s hard to get excited about riding a bike inside. The bike is a machine designed to take human force and turn it into speed. It’s hard to believe but cold temperatures not too far around the corner and we will all reluctantly be forced to take our training back inside. One company that actually makes the idea of indoor training pretty exciting is Kinetic. So let’s start with some of their basics, like their Trainer mat: The basis of the Kinetic trainer package is their durable, noise and vibration-dampening closed-cell PVC foam floor mat. It’s a simple necessity for any cyclist who cherishes a clean training environment. So if you’d like to keep your floor sweat-free and to your trainer even more secure this simple, affordable accessory will pay it’s way in dividends. The Kinetic Trainer Tire (produced by our friends at Kenda) was developed to specifically prevent your standard road or trail tires from typical trainer wear. The tire is quiet, which your apartment complex neighbors will surely appreciate. And thanks to its specially formulated compound The Trainer Tire provides better grip on your trainer or roller for a more consistent connection. The Trainer Tire is available in 26″ and 700x23c. The Minneapolis company certainly knows what riders need to succeed through the winter and we think their most exciting offering is the Kinetic Rock ‘N Roll trainer… The Rock ‘N Roll trainer takes advantage of it’s wide, stable base and adds to that a unique elastomer …

Question by Sean Guest: I want to get into competative cycling, what are some good brands of racing bikes?
I’m not bothered about price, also any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated

Answer by John M
Go to the local bike shops they all have different levels of bikes for racing. I would get a bike with at least 105 components or above. You need to get fitted so the bike is comfortable for hours of training. You can spend $ 6,000 or more if you want.

Question by Rommel: Why 700c is the standard rim for road bikes used in tour the france ?
why not used 27 instead ?
Best answer:
Answer by agb90spruce
Why is anything ‘standard’? Basically, it’s a metric world and the 700C rim (622 mm), of the sizes in use, was the ‘right’ size for a racing/road rim. Much smaller wouldn’t roll as well, and larger would be heavier.

Full Suspension Mountain Bikes vs. Hardtail Mountain Bikes- FAQ
I have started to loose count of the number of times I’ve heard questions such as, “What type of mountain bike should I buy?” and “What is the difference between a full suspension mountain bike and a hardtail mountain bike?” One type of bike is not better than the other. The choice between the two should be made based on the riders’ personal riding preferences, budget and physical capabilities. The FAQ below was compiled in order to help you with this all-important choice.
Question: What are full suspension mountain bikes?
Answer: Also known as dual-suspension mountain bikes, these mountain bikes have shock absorbers installed in both the front and rear tires.
Question: What are hardtail mountain bikes?
Answer: Also known as front or single suspension mountain bikes, these mountain bikes have shock absorbers installed in the front tire only.

Question: Which type of mountain bike tends to be faster?
Answer: Hardtail mountain bikes tend to be faster and pedal easier in smooth terrain than full suspension mountain bikes because of the former’s light weight and stiff rear end.
Question: Which bike is better at handling obstacles and rough terrain?
Answer: Because of the shock absorbers in both the front and the rear, full suspension mountain bikes outperform hardtails in rough terrain. The suspension absorbs the impact of obstacles and allows for more traction to be transferred to the ground.
Question: Which bike is better at climbing hills?
Answer: Because of their light weight and easier handling, hardtail mountain bikes are better at climbing hills. However, full suspension mountain bikes do outperform hardtails on hills that are made up of rough terrain.
Question: Which bike is easier on the body?
Answer: Full suspension mountain bikesare more comfortable than their counterparts. It minimizes the stress on riders’ arms and backs caused by vibrations and jolts during long rides.
Question: Which is more affordable?
Answer: Hardtail bikes are usally more affordable than full suspension bikes of similar quality.
Now you are equipped with the information you need to make the right choice. Happy Trailing!
